Biography

Dennis is presently employed at Rockley Music Center in Lakewood, Colorado providing customer service in piano print music and managing the private teaching studios. Dennis began playing piccolo and 3rd flute with the Denver Pops Orchestra in October 2008. During the 2009-2010 season Dennis will continue as piccolo player and also sub as second flute. He also plays solo flute at Park Hill Congregational Church and directs and plays with the Park Hill Flutes and Park Hill Early Music Ensemble.

He was appointed Instructor of Private Flute at the Community College of Aurora in August 2005 and taught flute and recorder there through December 2007. He was music director and conductor of the Rocky Mountain Flute Choir from 2001 - 2003. Coordinator, director and performer with the First Plymouth Flute Ensemble from 1999 - 2005. Dennis has previously played flute with the Highland Flute Quartet, CU-Alumni Choir, University of Colorado at Denver Flute Ensemble, and has substituted for the Jefferson Symphony, Centennial Philharmonic and the Denver Pops Orchestra.

Dennis has studied flute with New Zealand flutist and recording artist Alexa Still. He has also been coached by Holly Hofmann, Katherine Kemler, Theresa Beaman and Christine Potter. He is a member of the Colorado Flute Association serving as a Board Member at Large from 1998 - 2004. Dennis was the CFA webmaster from 2001-2004 and the CFA membership coordinator for the 2003-2004 membership year.

Dennis has forty years teaching experience starting as a 15 year old and maintained a private studio at Kolacny Music Center in Denver, Colorado from 1997 until 2010. He now makes himself available as an auditon and performance coach from one to four sessions for up to a months time.

Dennis received a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Growing up playing clarinet, he began studying string bass and flute in college. After college he played bass with the Colorado Springs Symphony from 1979-1982 and was principal bass with the Centennial Philharmonic, (now Denver Philharmonic), in Denver from 1986 to 1990.

He has attended flute master classes by Christina Jennings, Lisa-Marie Amos, Pam Endsley, Julie Duncan Thornton, Katherine Kemler, Marco Granados, Metaj Zupan, James Galway, William Bennett, Jeanne Baxtresser, Claude Monteux, Karl Kraber, Felix Skowronek, James Pellerite, Murray Panitz, Doriot-Anthony Dryer and Ransom Wilson. He has performed in master classes with Carol Wincenc and Alexa Still. He has over 30 years public and private flute instruction, 15 years public and private string bass instruction, 10 years public and private clarinet instruction. Dennis has studied and plays piano, recorder and piccolo, flute and recently added beginning guitar.
